Discover our slow hot dog recipes and rediscover them. Most of us want to reach for a hot dog from time to time. A hot roll with exciting additions is a nice change for traditional sandwiches. If you like trying new flavours, we have five ideas for tasty homemade hot dogs for you. However, before we move on to the recipes, let’s talk about bread for a moment.

What bun for a hot dog?

"bun

You can find specially packaged fresh or frozen, oblong hot dog buns in many stores, sometimes with a hole in the middle. They are usually light, fluffy and not very filling. They often contain unhealthy additives, such as preservatives. An alternative is a good quality fresh Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll. More dense ones will successfully replace hot dog buns. In addition to a good-quality base, you also need an interesting recipe for a homemade hot dog.

Farmer’s hot dog

This version combines the much-liked taste of grilled sausage, pickled cucumber, peppers and fresh onions.

To prepare for one hot dog, you will need:

  • Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll,
  • One frankfurter,
  • Half a small onion,
  • One pickled cucumber,
  • 1/4 red pepper
  • Ketchup,
  • Mustard.

Grill the sausage in an oven preheated to 180 degrees until it is lightly browned. In the end, put the sliced bun to warm up for a while. Slice the vegetables and put them in a warm roll with the frankfurters. Add ketchup and mustard.

This is an ideal proposition for the spring and summer period, when stalls and vegetable stores abound with fresh vegetables, tempting with colours.

To prepare a spring hot-dog, you will need:

  • Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll,
  • One frankfurter,
  • A large leaf of lettuce,
  • Four slices of fresh cucumber,
  • Three tomato slices,
  • Three sliced green onion feathers,
  • Ketchup,
  • Mustard.

Grill the frankfurters in the oven at 180 degrees until they turn brown. In the end, put the sliced bun in to warm up for a while. Next, prepare the rest of the ingredients. You need:
