What bun for a hot dog?
You can find specially packaged fresh or frozen, oblong hot dog buns in many stores, sometimes with a hole in the middle. They are usually light, fluffy and not very filling. They often contain unhealthy additives, such as preservatives. An alternative is a good quality fresh Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll. More dense ones will successfully replace hot dog buns. In addition to a good-quality base, you also need an interesting recipe for a homemade hot dog.
Farmer’s hot dog
This version combines the much-liked taste of grilled sausage, pickled cucumber, peppers and fresh onions.
To prepare for one hot dog, you will need:
- Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll,
- One frankfurter,
- Half a small onion,
- One pickled cucumber,
- 1/4 red pepper
- Ketchup,
- Mustard.
Grill the sausage in an oven preheated to 180 degrees until it is lightly browned. In the end, put the sliced bun to warm up for a while. Slice the vegetables and put them in a warm roll with the frankfurters. Add ketchup and mustard.
Hot dog with grilled vegetables
It is an exciting and tasty alternative for lovers of grilled vegetables.
To prepare one piece, you will need:
- Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll,
- One frankfurter,
- Two slices of small zucchini cut lengthwise,
- Half a small onion,
- Half a red pepper,
- One large mushroom,
- Olive oil,
- Salt to taste,
- Herbes de Provence,
- Ingredients for the sauce:
- Half a small yoghurt,
- Spoon of mayonnaise,
- A garlic clove,
- Salt,
- Pepper,
- A pinch of sweet pepper.
Cut the peppers into strips and the remaining vegetables into slices. Brush lightly with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, and the courgette with Provencal herbs. Grill for a short time in an oven at 180 degrees Celsius until the vegetables are browned together with the frankfurters. Prepare the garlic sauce. At the end of baking, put the bun in the oven for a few minutes to warm it up slightly. After taking it out, add all the ingredients in it and pour over the garlic sauce
Spring hot dog
This is an ideal proposition for the spring and summer period, when stalls and vegetable stores abound with fresh vegetables, tempting with colours.
To prepare a spring hot-dog, you will need:
- Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll,
- One frankfurter,
- A large leaf of lettuce,
- Four slices of fresh cucumber,
- Three tomato slices,
- Three sliced green onion feathers,
- Ketchup,
- Mustard.
Grill the frankfurters in the oven at 180 degrees until they turn brown. In the end, put the sliced bun in to warm up for a while. Next, prepare the rest of the ingredients. When the sausage and bun are ready, arrange the lettuce, frankfurters and vegetables in turn. Pour over the ketchup and mustard. The delicious and crunchy hot dog is ready!
Hot dog with white sausage
How about a hot-dog with white sausage and bacon? Sounds delicious, right? Will be needed:
- Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll,
- One thin white sausage
- A large slice of bacon,
- A slice of cheddar cheese,
- Half a small onion,
- One pickled cucumber,
- Half a tomato,
- Ketchup,
- Mustard.
Grill the sausage in the oven at 180 degrees until golden brown. In the end, add a slice of bacon; when it is brown, add a slice of cheese on it for a few minutes to melt and heat the bun. After removing from the oven, wrap the sausage with bacon and cheese, then place in a bun. Add the remaining ingredients, sliced or small. Finally, pour over the ketchup and mustard.
Hot dog with feta cheese
Another suggestion is a hot-dog with the addition of feta cheese and finely chopped vegetables.
You need:
- Rohlik roll or a Slovak roll,
- Kabanos sausage,
- 50 g of feta cheese,
- Half a tomato,
- A small green cucumber,
- A handful of arugula,
- Half a red onion,
- A tablespoon of olive oil,
- Ketchup,
- Mustard.
Heat the kabanos in the oven at 180 degrees. In the end, put a roll for a moment. Slice the remaining ingredients, mix with rocket and drizzle with olive oil. Place them in a roll with kabanos, pouring ketchup and mustard.
Homemade hot-dogs are a tasty alternative to those available in restaurants or petrol stations. Eaten from time to time in good company during a barbecue or picnic on the grass will certainly be a source of pleasure for the palate.
