When picturing a hamburger, what often springs to mind is a fluffy bun enveloping a beef patty, generously covered in sauce, with cheese, tomato slices, and a lettuce leaf. Due to its bread type and other constituents, it frequently gains an unhealthy reputation. Today, I’m thrilled to bring to the table our unique and healthier reinterpretations of this popular dish, centring around a variety of bun types.
Hamburgers: A Global Delight with German Origins
Interestingly, one of the world’s most renowned dishes, hamburgers, have their roots in Germany, not America, where most hamburger franchises originate. In the early 19th century, the port of Hamburg, a significant European hub, was a springboard for emigrants to America. To entice visitors to the city, Hamburg steak was served – minced cutlets seasoned with onions and presented with sauce. While the transition to being nestled within a bun remains a mystery, there’s no denying the widespread affection for this comfort food around the globe.
Reinventing the Burger Bun
Undeniably, the linchpin of a contemporary hamburger is the bun. While the original ones are tasty, they are not exceptionally nutritious. Healthier alternatives include rolls typically enjoyed for breakfast or tea, such as kajzerka, mazowiecka, mallard, graham, or multigrain. At Bakery Mazowsze, we’ve decided to take a step further. We’re excited to introduce our new hamburger buns, sprinkled with Golden Linseed, a nutritious seed famed for its multitude of health benefits, as a replacement for sesame, due to allergy concerns.
